This week Gareth Scurlock, deputy travel editor at the Times Online catches up with  Dan Cruickshank via mobile phone as he sets off on another awe inspiring journey.


Dan Cruickshank is a regular presenter on the BBC, best known for his popular series ‘Around the World in 80 Treasures’ and its accompanying book. His most recent series, ‘Adventures in Architecture’ was shown on the BBC in 2008. Dan Cruickshank has travelled extensively in troubled regions including Afghanistan in 2002 for the BBC Omnibus series and Iraq for ‘Under Fire’, reporting on the scale of looting of Iraqi treasures.
Dan Cruickshank is currently working on two new books; ‘The Secret History of Georgian London’, and ‘Treasure Island’.  He is also filming a new BBC documentary celebrating 250 years of Kew Gardens.
